Competitive D.C. public schools have attracted parents from neighboring Maryland and Virginia who are willing to lie about where they live to avoid paying “out-of-state” fees for their children. An audit from the D.C. Inspector General and an investigation from the Washington Post have found that residency fraud is common among local parents––even those employed by the school district. Kojo discusses the issues and why few consequences have been levied.
