Before the earthquake, Haiti was a country with an energy problem. Only 13 percent of Haitians had legal access to the country's electrical grid, while their reliance on charcoal for cooking had led to rampant deforestation. We examine new green energy initiatives, from solar power grids to energy-efficient stoves.
