Last year, terminally-ill patients in the District were given the option to request lethal drugs through the Death With Dignity Act. Yet, not one patient has made this request. Though the bill has its supporters, willing physicians are hard to find. Aid-in-dying advocates have suggested that doctors are deterred by the cumbersome process for participation. We discuss end-of-life options with a retired physician who is also a cancer patient and an advocate for physician-assisted death.
