The District hopes to close the homeless shelter at D.C. General by 2018 and open new shelters spread throughout every ward of the city to take its place. The D.C. Council and the Mayor Bowser’s office disagreed on where to put the new shelters and how to pay for them and ultimately voted to approve changes to the Mayor Bowser’s plan.
