You may not know her name, but you likely know her legacy. Sophie Altman created “It’s Academic,” the high school quiz bowl listed in the Guiness Book of World Records as the World’s Longest Running TV Quiz Show. Over its nearly fifty years on air, the show influenced the lives of thousands of young Washingtonians. Altman was still writing questions for the show when she passed away this week at the age of 94. We reflect on her life with excerpts from an interview Kojo conducted with her daughter Susan Altman and the legendary host of It’s Academic, Mac McGarry.
