Almost every college student uses a loan to pay some portion of their tuition these days. The skyrocketing volume of student loans has resulted in efficiencies of scale and technical improvements at many universities. But some people worry that the volume has attracted private interests to put profit ahead of policy concerns when it comes to these loans. As Congress prepares to reauthorize the federal student loan laws, we take a closer look at the student loan industry.
