Local municipalities do their best to prevent emergency events. But when they do happen, like the recent deadly explosion at an apartment building in Silver Spring, local government has to respond quickly and effectively to address the short term and long term impact of the disaster –from site clean up to shelter and food for victims. Kojo sits down with a Montgomery County official to discuss how the government responds, and what role it plays, in the wake of unpredictable tragedy.
