The Appalachian Lab at the University of Maryland’s Center for Environmental Science may not be well known, but it has an important role evaluating the health of the state’s air, water and soil. The lab also advises policymakers on contentious issues like agricultural runoff and the environmental consequences of fracking. We speak with the lab’s new director.
