Dog bites by pit bulls make the headlines. But few are aware that the Washington Humane Society picks up some forty abused, neglected, or mistreated pit bulls around the city every week. They’re now supporting a City Council proposal to impose a breed-specific ban against ownership and breeding in the District, which infuriates some dog lovers and pit bull advocates.
