WAMU Book Club: Read “Fates And Furies” With Us!

By Tayla Burney

Annnnnd, we’re back! It’s time for the second round of the WAMU riff off the Morning Edition book club curated by our friends over at NPR.

The selection is Lauren Groff’s novel “Fates and Furies,” announced as author Richard Russo’s pick earlier this week.

There’s a lot happening around this novel, which was just long-listed for a National Book Award, so let’s get up to speed.

  • This coming Monday Kojo will be talking with Lauren Groff in the 1 p.m. hour of the show. We’re going to talk about her writing process (she writes by hand!) and why secrets aren’t always a bad thing. And we will be doing our best to avoid spoilers.
  • NPR’s David Greene will be talking to Groff as well. That interview will air on Tuesday, October 27 and you can send questions you have for Groff as you read the book to Greene via twitter using #MorningEditionBookClub

You can also read “Fates and Furies” with us book lovers at WAMU, and follow along with our weekly discussions. Jonathan Wilson, our All Things Considered anchor, Chris Chester, web producer extraordinaire and myself will be hosting talks with special guests about some of the novel’s themes and issues within it every Thursday afternoon until early November.

Our first chat covers our impressions of the NPR selection, and the selector, author Richard Russo. Check it out:

Next week, we’ll be back with a discussion about cover art and how art and literature inform one another. Stick with us every week until Thursday, November 5 when we want to talk with you. Here! At WAMU. Stay tuned for more details. But mark your calendars now for that evening. Until then, happy reading!
