Last week, a man was beaten on a busy street corner in DC. The beating was violent and caught on videotape. But most disturbing is that no bystander intervened or even called 9111 until 20 minutes later. We look at the community response, learn what social scientists know about the Bystander Effect, and explore accusations that disinterest is the result of neighborhood gentrification.
