Origins of Lethal Injection

Listen Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005 at 1:40 p.m. in Law, Religion

In the wake of this week's execution of Stanley 'Tookie' Williams, we talk with a man who was the first legislator to push for 'death by lethal injection.' Some 30 years ago, shortly after capital punishment was reinstituted by the US Supreme Court, Bill Wiseman tried to make the practice more humane by eliminating the electric chair. Today, the former legislator is a clergyman, and rethinking his role in the process.
