Central American Free Trade Agreement

Listen Monday, May. 16, 2005 at 1:06 p.m. in Economy

Central American leaders met with President Bush in Washington last week to tout the Central American Free Trade Agreement. But the proposal faces a stiff challenge from organized labor, Republicans in sugar-producing states, and pro-trade Democrats who think CAFTA doesn't do enough to address labor laws and environmental issues. A look at trade in the Western Hemisphere, and the prospects for Congressional approval of CAFTA.

Audio archives, transcripts and CDs will be available approximately 15 minutes after the program ends.

Guests

John Murphy

Vice President for Western Hemisphere Affairs at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce

Lori Wallach

Director of Public Citizen’s Global Trade Watch

Jack Roney
