For some people, digital communication is such a big part of life that being cut off from Facebook, Twitter, or email for just a few hours can feel more like days of a total information blackout.

Science and technology writer Daniel Sieberg's new book, "The Digital Diet," talks about the problem of "tech addiction" and outlines a plan to help people not to entirely give up their digital devices, but to try to find a better balance between living in the virtual world and the real one.
