Discovery Channel has Shark Week; we at the Kojo Nnamdi Show have debate week - or, to be more accurate, two debate days in a week. Wednesday, we welcomed D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty and D.C. Council Chair/mayoral candidate Vincent Gray to the studio for a live forum. Friday on The Politics Hour, we're zeroing in on Ward 1.

D.C. Councilmember Jim Graham (D-Ward 1) will be here facing off against his two Democratic challengers, Jeff Smith and Bryan Weaver.  A few weeks ago, Washington Post reporter Paul Schwartzman profiled Graham, revealing that the councilmember "zealously guards his image" and that Graham answered written questions for the piece rather than consenting to a traditional verbal interview. Schwartzman explored last year's scandal involving bribery charges brought against Graham's former chief of staff, Ted Loza, and noted that Graham is running on a record of achievement based on the revitalization he's brought to the neighborhoods he serves since he was first elected to the council in 1998.

Do you live in Ward 1? What issues are most important to you? What should we ask the candidates who are vying for your vote? You can send us questions here, on Facebook, Twitter, via email at kojo@wamu.org; or by calling 800-433-8850 during tomorrow's show.

I received a call from a friend telling me she didn't know there were so many people running against Jim Graham. I told her I knew. She said they were blasting him. I said I wasn't surprised because I said the "stuff" that was being posted on the Adams-Morgan Yahoo Group. One of the candidate and some of his supporters were blasting him in a very unprofessional way. I was very disappointed him. I didn't think it was his style, but...anyone can be wrong. I know what Jim Graham has done for transportation whether it was the Circulator to hook Columbia Heights area and thus the Columbia Heights metro with the Adams-Morgan community as well as Connecticut Avenue Metro. It helps bring business to both areas easier as well as helps people who need to get from one area to another in order to get to their jobs or homes. He has helped people by keeping the 16th Street bus lines, the 14th street bus lines and helped keep the Yellow Line open rather than having it stop at the U Street stop. This helps people in a Ward 1 area which he has been criticized in the A-M area which he was criticized as having been neglected by Jim Graham. He has also helped to finance community centers and basketball and recreation areas to help keep kids busy in these recreation areas and not running up and down the streets doing nothing except hanging out outside stores selling stuff outside of boredom. He has done many more things, but for some reason, he is not being given credit for them. I know many things he has done, but they are too long to go into in one blog. By the way, the transportation stuff I mentioned above is very important for people with disabilities as well as senior citizens and helps keep more cars off the streets which also helps the environment.
