For some people, digital communication is such a big part of life that being cut off from Facebook, Twitter, or email for just a few hours can feel more like days of a total information blackout.

Science and technology writer Daniel Sieberg's new book, "The Digital Diet," talks about the problem of "tech addiction" and outlines a plan to help people not to entirely give up their digital devices, but to try to find a better balance between living in the virtual world and the real one.

Longevity: What Counts and What Doesn't

Every two years, some of the most talented senior citizena athletes in the U.S. gather together to compete against each other in games of archery, badminton, basketball, bowling, cycling, golf, horseshoes, race walk, racquetball, road race, shuffleboard, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track & field, triathlon, and volleyball during the National Senior Association's National Senior Games. (Yes, shuffleboard is on this list).

Next week is choc-a-bloc with interesting topics on The Kojo Nnamdi Show (but when is that not the case?)

Monday, we're looking at a broad overview of the BRAC (Base Realignment and Closure) projects in our area. Decisions made in 2005 are going into effect across the country and the region now, and we'll take a look at how the big decisions were made and how communities from Virginia to Maryland are readying for the changes ahead. Workplace diversity consultant Howard Ross is also here Monday. 

Peace Corps: The "Idea of the American People"

In 1961, President John F. Kennedy introduced the Peace Corps program, telling the nation that it was "the idea of the American people." Kennedy said that the program was not meant to be a "weapon of propaganda or a tool of the Cold War," but was rather a genuine U.S. "effort to play a part in working for peace and improving the lives of all mankind."

Crab Recipes

Summer cooking in the Chesapeake area involves more than just crabs, but crabs are one of the big stars of the cuisine. For this Wednesday's food show, Kojo's talking with John Shields, owner and chef at Gertrude's Restaurant in Baltimore.

John was nice enough to share two of his crab recipes with us. Do you have a favorite, tried-and-true crabcake recipe you'd like to share?
