Fairfax County Public Schools have joined a growing number of districts that prohibit discrimination based on gender identity. The school board adopted a new policy last week intended to ensure that transgender students have the same school experience as everyone else. As Fairfax moves to implement the policy, we look at another school district that adopted a similar policy 10 years ago and ask how its experience can inform the way forward in Fairfax public schools.
