By some measures, roughly a quarter of American deaths in Afghanistan this year have come at the hands of Afghan security forces. The count is spiking at a time when the American war effort is relying increasingly on Afghan military and police to maintain security there - and facilitate transitions of power. We examine the new risks facing the American military and diplomatic figures who are working with Afghan partners.
