He's been described as the "Indiana Jones of Botany" and the "father of modern plant genetics." In the early 20th century, Russian botanist Nikolai Vavilov amassed a collection of 250,000 seed varieties, developing innovative theories about the links between genetics and agricultural production. But he fell victim to the ideology of Joseph Stalin. We speak with author Peter Pringle about the life and legacy of Nikolai Vavilov.
