Four years ago, pollsters predicted that outer suburbs-- or "exurbs" -- across the country would become a bedrock of Republican votes. But elections in 2006 revealed these communities to be more "purple" than many people thought. We explore the political identity of local exurbs, and how issues like the sub-prime crisis are likely to affect voting patterns.
